Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Cannes Film Festival in France is considered to be the most prestigious of its kind and Yellowknife will be part of it this year.

Telefilm Canada has chosen "Amelia", an 18-minute short feature written and directed by Andrew Silke, to be shown at the festival through its "Not Short on Talent" program.

Silke said he's still trying to get over the fact that the film has been chosen.

"I was kind of freaking out to be honest, on the inside, but I couldn't really say anything until today," he said.

What makes the film unique is everything about the film is completely Northern and Silke said that's something he's proud of.

"The whole thing was shot, edited, written by a Northwest Territories crew in the Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife,” he said. “It was actually also partly funded by the government of the Northwest Territories."

The film's soundtrack was produced by Travis Mercredi and fronted by Brendan Callas, while the husband and wife team of Charles and Sarah Kalnay-Watson served as script editor and executive producer respectively.

Silke will be joining Danny Lennon from Telefilm Canada at the festival, which begins on May 16.
