DHSS releases findings, overall health care in good shape
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Department of Health and Social Services has released its findings in the 2012 Client Satisfaction Questionnaire and things are apparently looking good.
Most of the results scored in the 90% satisfaction rate in either excellent or good, such as in overall care at 92% and access to services at 91%.
The department's deputy minister, Debbie Delancey, said seeing those numbers, especially in overall care, are encouraging for the department.
"That number's been fairly steady in the low 90's over several years, so I think it shows that in spite of everything we hear about challenges with the system, we're maintaining a fairly steady level of patients being satisfied with the service they're receiving."
One place, though, where the department scored lower than normal was in questions about medication at 62%, down from 75% in 2010.
Delancey said that is a place where they know things have to improve.
"That's one of the results where if we see a downward trend, that helps us know where we need to go out into the system and say 'look, it looks like there's room for improvement, why is this happening and what do we need to do to turn it around?'."
More than 1,700 people around the territory answered the survey, up around 200 from 2010.
