Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Two people were found dead Thursday morning by Hay River RCMP.

Police were called to a location in the town early in the morning and found the pair deceased upon arrival.

Sergeant Wes Heron with G Division RCMP said the location has been cordoned off and they have a full compliment of resources at the scene.

“The resources on site are the Hay River Detachment members, the G Division Major Crime Unit members and of course our forensic identification members are currently on-site."

The Hay River detachment is leading the investigation.

A third person had been taken into custody, but there's no word on any charges being laid at this point.

Mayor Ken Latour said the mood around the town is sombre.

"I think there is just a feeling in the air right now, this is a huge shock to this community and it just you know it’s never good time for anything like this but it's never expected."

Police will not be releasing any more details at the present time.
