Responses to city's transit surveys music to mayor's ears

Monday, July 9, 2012 - 1:07 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The city’s transit survey was a chance for Yellowknife residents to voice their opinions on what they would like to see changed and improved.

This year's survey saw the community asking for a year round service to the hospital and ways of getting bus arrival information online.

Mayor Gordon Van Tighem said that the overall response the city got back on bus quality and travel times was great and added the topic of changing the routes came up at the best possible time for the city.

“This is the time in our contract where it goes out for renewal,” he said. “It gives a great opportunity to highlight the types of things that people were asking for, include them in a request for proposal and have them come back as part of the proposal.”

Van Tighem also said these surveys are very important for the city.

“The degree of consultation and discussion and involving the general population has increased exponentially and is really the basis of recommendations that administration makes to council now,” he said.

His Worship said the city will continue to look into the changes that were requested by the community moving forward.
