Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Students at Aurora College will now have more options when it comes to continuing their studies.

The college, along with Yukon College and Nunavut Arctic College, signed a memorandum of understanding with four universities in Canada yesterday to give students a chance to transfer to programs at the university level.

The four universities are part of the CALDO Consortium and consist of the University of Alberta, Laval University, Dalhousie University and the University of Ottawa.

Aurora College president Sarah Wright Cardinal said the agreement is for five years and didn't take long to come together.

"It took a few months only a few months because the will for collaboration around the table and the interest in expanding opportunities for students and research in the North is very high," she said.

Cardinal said the CALDO group was chosen due to its locations in Canada.

"because they are in different provinces of Canada it allows us to have a pan Canadian cross section which increases opportunities for students," she said.

Education, Culture and Employment minister Jackson Lafferty signed the document on behalf of the GNWT and Cardinal said there is the possibility of transfers being accepted for the next school year.
