Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Eco-Housing is coming to Yellowknife.

These new efficient homes will help residents save money and energy.

The project will see a 24-unit condominium built in the down town core with construction beginning next spring. 

Guy Architects are spear heading the project, and their principal, Wayne Guy, said that this is a great step moving forward and that this project will help improve the downtown.

"This project is seen as sort of a catalyst to bring people in to the downtown and really revitalize downtown. We have a commercial component to the building on the main floor as well, which will provide shops, and stores, and services to the downtown area."

Guy said they will be offering a skills development program so local trade workers can work on both the design and construction of the eco-housing.

"The construction industry gets the benefit of the design approaches that we're using and how to implement them. And this information will be available, of course, to other developers in town because at the end of the day the idea of this project is really to enhance the overall level of skill."

Guy said he is very happy that the city supports this project for the future of Yellowknife.
