NewsCompany negotiating for road contract supports Negotiated Contracts PolicyMonday, May 14, 2012 - 8:13 AM Yellowknife, NWT - Deton Cho Corporation feels the GNWT's Negotiated Contracts Policy is a good thing and it’s saying as much. The company is in negotiations with the Department of Transportation for the contract on the Giant Mine Bypass Road Project, even though a couple of MLAs have criticized the GNWT's decision to negotiate with Deton Cho . Deton Cho CEO Roy Erasmus, Jr. said the policy helps businesses such as his to get in on the local economy and grow “particularly northern businesses establish themselves and get started into industries where they may not be already be participating allow themselves to grow and develop not only themselves but other northerners." he said. In anticipation of a successful contract negotiation, Erasmus, Jr. said his company has gone ahead and made some purchasing decisions. “We've... committed to purchasing several million dollars of equipment from local equipment suppliers and we've also been in discussions with several other local subcontractors to perform work on the road as well,” he said. Range Lake MLA Daryl Dolynny and most recently, Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins, have criticized the DOT's decision to give the negotiating rights to Deton Cho.
