Hay River council accepts recommendations from MACA

Friday, June 1, 2012 - 4:47 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Hay River town council has voted to accept the recommendations made by the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs.

The 18 recommendations came out of a MACA investigation into concerns raised by former Hay River mayor Kelly Schofield.

Current mayor Ken Latour said town council is now at a place where it can poke its head above water and take a look around.

"And see what we're going to do next. Getting the fire hall approved and just dealing with the departure of the former mayor and getting back on track was really the main focus for the last two or three months."

Latour said some of the recommendations have already been implemented including the one that calls for more training for the town's Senior Administrative Officer.

"This week for example, he's down in Saskatoon at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference that is just for SAOs."

Latour said they are taking time to digest the recommendations of both MACA and a consultant that has been doing an organizational review for the town.

Council will then reconvene to discuss what they are going to do.
