Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The temperatures in Yellowknife and Hay River have been well above normal for this time of year and that fact hasn't been lost on those at Environment Canada.

It was 30 degrees on Tuesday in the capital for the second day in a row, but what's even more surprising is the humidity, which normally doesn't occur in the North.

Environment Canada's senior climatologist, David Phillips, said people in the North are used to dry air, either warm or cold, which makes the humidity a little tougher to bear.

"It's not easy to acclimatize yourself to conditions that are almost jungle-like, almost tropical, where you're seeing very high humidity, it doesn't cool off very much at night."

There is some relief coming, though, as Phillips said normal temperatures of around 21 degrees will come back as early as Wednesday.

"We're going to see very close to that on Wednesday, and then Friday, Saturday, Sunday looks like a great, great weekend with temperatures of 21, 22, 24 degrees in the afternoon."

The temperature record for July 10th was also broken.

The previous record was 28.9 degrees set back in 1975.
