Mayor Gord van Tighem re-assuming role with Federation of Canadian Municipalities

Friday, August 10, 2012 - 9:29 AM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Mayor Gordon van Tighem has returned to a familiar role within the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

His worship has been appointed to serve as chair of FCM's Northern and Remote Forum, which acts as a standing committee within the FCM's mandate.

The mayor said the forum represents those communities North of the 55th parallel and they have a wide variety of issues which are all important in their own way.

“People that you’re representing have very differing styles, very differing infrastructure challenges, (in general), lots of differences,” he said.

Along with a seat at the FCM table, Van Tighem said the group also gets a crack at meeting important politicians who may come calling.

”The executive gets a one-on-one, or a 12-on-1 meeting, with anyone that comes in as a guest speaker or presenter,” he said.

He will retain the position until his term as mayor runs out in October.
